Discipine in Context

Discipline in Context, a new publication from the families Commission reports on trend away from use of physical disicpline. Kiwi families say they are increasingly using positive parenting techniques because they work, according to 100 ordinary families’ descriptions of their own parenting methods reported in the Families Commission publication by Anne Smith and Julie Lawrence, Discipline in Context. Parents reported that they predominantly use positive disciplinary methods such as praise and rewards, and while punitive methods such as smacking or shouting were used, they were much more infrequent. The authors suggest that recent changes in the law and public campaigns against family violence may be beginning to change the attitudes and practices of parents.http://www.nzfamilies.org.nz/research/child-discipline/discipline-in-context
